Overseeing that the demand for coffee is as high as the number of environmental damages (though they aren’t exactly related in any way), Joco launches a new solution that would rectify both issues at once. Which is to help raise awareness from millions of coffee lovers around the world to become more environment conscious while, at the same time, enable them to enjoy a cup of barista-grade coffee in style. No surprise they’re calling it the ‘Cups That Care’.
Ditch paper, go for glass
Jimmy Gleeson (the designer who gave Bellroy it owl) has created a branding for Joco based on the concept of ‘ditch paper for glass’. Or to put it in another way, a brand that is made up of 100% recyclable materials. The cup, for instance, uses glass instead of paper (which would probably end up in trash), or plastic (which is mostly recyclable). And normally, carrying own cups around the streets would make you look like an idiot. But Joco encourages people to take it out everyday by styling their cups with striking colored rubber sleeves and lids, and even some limited editions to match your unique coffee sense.
“… a brand made up of 100% recyclable materials.”
“Our philosophy is as simple as it is honest: longevity, flavour and style. Our cups are designed to enhance your morning brew, save your taste buds and help out mother nature. Consciously, your Joco cup doesn’t compromise on anything.”
Continuing the idea of mother-coffee-nature, the packaging that came in along with the cup, is not just made with eco-friendly card board, but beautifully printed inside-out as well with fun patterns and illustrations. So you won’t throw it away by its innocent look. Plus, you could use it as a stationery holder, or simple a decoration, or anything you can think of.
“… you won’t throw it away by its innocent look.”
Well, in case you’re the sort of person who likes sharing, Joco also came up with a six-cups carry tray, which the round cut-outs can be reused as coasters. “Ethically minded, Joco are all about equal amounts of substance and style. They care for your coffee as much as Mother Earth, and believe that environmentally safe materials combined with smart design are the best reasons to drink from their cups over plastic alternatives.”
“Annually, 2.25 billion paper cups are used worldwide and those figures are rising rapidly each year. That equates to 50,000,000 trees cut down and harvested for the sake of convenience. Don’t fear. We are not here to lecture you or chain ourselves to trees. We’re just regular crew who appreciate clear thinking and thought it was time to give a little back. There’s a whole host of benefits for you and the environment when using JOCO cups.”
