You probably saw in my previous post, The Lodhi, that I talk about some history. I know, maybe you don’t like history at all, and honest to say, me neither. But for some reason, I really like the way designers can transform something as old as a grandfather clock into something so relevant today even without losing the original value, like the Obbio for example. So it’s good to say that the ‘past’ is always your greatest source of inspiration (well, maybe not always, sometimes). Anyway, let’s take a moment to enjoy this beautiful website created to celebrate Brancott Estate‘s more than 40 years of wine-making … history.
The history
Not to bore you, I’ll make it quick … in one sentence. Established in 1934, Brancott Estate is a New Zealand winemaker who first to plant and created the world’s first Malborough Sauvignon Blanc wine.
“From the very beginning, our connection to the land and our commitment to its care and preservation remain central to our winemaking philosophy. We craft wines that continue to be judged among the best in shows the world over and, most importantly, by wine lovers.”
So, how to really celebrate a celebration? This is one of most head-scratching question for most of us. Brancott Estate obviously thought so, especially that they have a few decades of success to celebrate. So they approach Impero (a clever little design agency in London) for answer.
Brancott Estate Pioneers
The result? 41-years of wine-making history showcased on a stunning 16,000px long website with chalk-style hand drawings and beautiful illustrations. It’s called the ‘Pioneers’.
“The Pioneers one-pager uses the Super Scrollorama jQuery plugin as a main animation framework and HTML canvas element for the chalk illustration effects. With such a mammoth project, we used a Grunt Javascript taskrunner to automate and streamline the production process within the team.” Technical speaking by Impero there.
Anyway, this is not a typical website you’ll see normally. It’s a bit … upside down. What I mean is, the one-page website starts at the bottom, so you have scroll up instead of down.
Luck may favor the brave.
But it’s the passion, hard work, and expertise
of the people behind that nurtures the growth.
